The Swallows
Repetition leads to a loss of attention, of focus. The eye becomes accustomed, spoilt even. Photographing pictures of blossoms produces much the same effect, though with it the subject itself does not disappear. It only fades into the latent. What comes to the fore at that moment is the void around it, which we lost sight of in earlier versions, although it is equally explicit and permanently present. It takes an attentive artist like Isabel Devos to draw our attention to the importance of what we no longer see.
